Spike says:
Excellent head, which I like to see in a root beer. Very lightly colored, almost like a cream soda. Not a lot of carbonation either, which is surprising given the strength and longevity of the head. This root beer is quite good, although the taste that comes to mind at first is "freezer burn". Upon further reflection, I think what I'm tasting is the vanilla and the sugar. The sweetness has a different character - it doesn't taste run-of-the-mill sweet. Perhaps it's the "evaporated cane juice". By the way, that makes no sense to me. If it's evaporated, how can they put it into the drink? I know, when you buy "evaporated milk" you're not buying an empty can...not that that makes any more sense to me. Perhaps they mean condensed cane juice, where some of the liquid is evaporated off leaving a thicker juice. In any case, this is a very mild but quite sweet root beer, and all the natural ingredients they add don't come through individually. This is a good thing...anise? wintergreen? clove? Any one of those added excessively would ruin the taste. As it is, it's about the sweetest root beer I've had...any sweeter and I'd hang a string in it and get root beer rock candy. Distinctive and mild enough to be someone's favorite...just not mine. Worth a try, though it loses points for giving me a sugar rush. I hear more about this root beer than any other. It seems quite a few people can't stand it. A woman at work bought a 4-pack, drank 2, gave me the rest because she hated it. Once in a while it won't taste good to me either, but most of the time I like it. I give it a B.
